19-year-old charged after stabbing 17-year-old outside apartment complex, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A 19-year-old was charged after he stabbed a 17-year-old on Wednesday morning, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Just after midnight, officers responded to an aggravated assault at Poplar Place Apartments on 1655 Randolph Place.
On the scene, officers were flagged down by a 17-year-old victim, who said he had been stabbed in his left wrist, according to police.
The victim told officers that he was dropping his girlfriend off at the apartments when the suspect approached him and stabbed him.
The victim said he didn’t know the suspect, but had seen him in the apartments before; however, he does know that the suspect likes his girlfriend, according to police.
Memphis Fire Department made the scene and took the victim to the hospital in non-critical conditions, and later his condition changed to critical.
Officers spoke with someone who said she was standing outside arguing with the victim when the suspect came from around the corner and started to argue with the victim.
They started fighting, and shortly after, the suspect stabbed the victim and ran away from the scene, according to police.
Officers from MPD and Tennessee Highway Patrol found the suspect at the intersection of Kirby Downs and Charlestown.
THP patted down the suspect and recovered a broken blade from a kitchen knife.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Richawn Brook, and he was charged with aggravated assault.
