Bluff City public pools open for summer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The City of Memphis has launched its pool season this week, giving residents another way to have summer fun and get out of the heat.
Ten pools will be in operation with varying hours until July 25, including the renovated Bickford Aquatic Center in Uptown Memphis.
Seven of those pools are open now.
The pool at the Westwood Community Center is tentatively scheduled to open Wednesday, July 1.
City leaders say the pools at the Riverview Community Center and Ed Rice Community Center have had their openings delayed until further notice.
“We’re staffing up,” said Justice Bolden, director of Memphis Parks. “We’re continuing to hire lifeguards. That position is open throughout the year... we’re also working on water safety opportunities for our youth, adults and seniors.”
Swim lessons for kids and adults are available at the Hickory Hill and Bickford Aquatic Centers.
Visitors just need a Memphis Parks membership to access public pools.
Memberships are free and only require a valid ID card. You can enroll for a membership online here.
A membership is not needed to visit the city’s various splash pads.
Six splash pads are open now. The one at Peabody Park is currently in a construction zone and is tentatively scheduled to open sometime in mid-July.
More information on the city’s pools and splash pads, including locations and hours, can be found on the City of Memphis’ website.
