MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Men and boys strapped on their high heels for the 13th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on Tuesday.

The walk aims to unite against and educate males about gender violence.

Participants started at the Ramesses II statue on Central and journeyed one mile to the University of Memphis.

Organizers say with new people coming into the community every year, it’s important to help them understand the effects of gender violence.

“We come to the campus where the highest risked population resides, 18 to 24, and try to get with them at least for a little while, with this stunt,” Deborah Clubb, Executive Director of Memphis Women’s Council, said, “to help them understand and think about the power that’s in their relationships and the ways they can be healthy, they can be happy, they can be respectful, and still be great relationships with all the drama and fun you want without anything that hurts or anything that takes away someone’s choice and freedom.”

Clubb also says she hopes the men and boys who participate will step up and help protect people who may be experiencing bad behavior and more.
