Bartlett crossing guard honored after being hit while saving children from drunk driver

BARTLETT, Tenn. (WMC) - The City of Bartlett honored a crossing guard who was hit by a drunk driver while rescuing two boys last month.

During the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Meeting, Bartlett Mayor David Parsons presented crossing guard Melissa Denbo with a certificate of recognition for heroism for her split-second decision that saved the two boys’ lives.

On May 14, Denbo was injured while rescuing two boys when a drunk driver, speeding, hit them on Kirby Whitten near Ellendale Elementary.

Both boys and Dendo were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition, and both are currently recovering.

The City of Bartlett thanked Denbo for her service and selfless actions during the critical situation.
