Kansas City airport evacuated after possible threat
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) - Travelers at the Kansas City International Airport were evacuated Sunday after a possible threat.
The Kansas City Aviation Department received a call about a potential device inside the airport on Sunday morning, as well as the parking garage.
Travelers were evacuated from the terminals around noon, and flights to and from the airport were grounded. Traffic was also been diverted away from the airport.
By 1:50 p.m., the airport confirmed that terminals were set to reopen as no credible threat was found.
During a sweep of the airport’s garage, a vehicle on the top floor was identified by K-9 units as suspicious. Kansas City Police’s Bomb and Arson unit was then called in to investigate, and the garage was kept closed for an additional three hours.
Bomb and Arson ultimately determined that there was no threat.
FBI Director Kash Patel also made a post on X, saying that the threat was not credible.
United States Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy posted on X that the security incident was clear and normal operations were resuming.
“The security incident at @Fly_KansasCity is now clear and normal operations are resuming,” Duffy said. “I want to thank law enforcement including the @FBI for their timely response. The safety of passengers, airport staff, and crew members is always our number one priority @FAANews.”
