FedEx partners with Feed the Children for Memphis food drive amid SNAP benefit delays
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - FedEx Cares partnered with Feed the Children on Wednesday to distribute food and essentials to 400 Memphis families as SNAP recipients continue to face challenges accessing their full November benefits.
The food drive took place at the Goodwill Excel Center, where families lined up to receive 25-pound boxes of shelf-stable food, hygiene essentials, children’s books and other items from a semi-truck unloaded and distributed by volunteers.

“The families that we serve at Feed the Children, and that benefit from programs like SNAP, and generosity from communities, are families just like you and I,” says Feed the Children President Emily Callhan. “They’re working multiple jobs to make ends meet. Maybe they just experienced a devastating health crisis that they didn’t have the savings to cover. Those needs are only rising.”
The Tennessee Department of Human Services announced that SNAP recipients can now access a portion of their November benefits, but many families are still relying on food banks and donation drives to meet their needs.
“It helps a little bit, but when people have like five or six children,” said Tilina Johnson, who waited in line for a box of food for her family. “But this right here really helps. It really shows how the community of Memphis comes together in our time of need.”
