MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - An adult education school in Memphis is broadening its curriculum thanks to another organization in the community.

Wednesday morning, FedEx Cares presented Goodwill’s Excel Center with a $500,000 check. The money will be used to provide local adults with opportunities to earn workforce credentials, like CDLs and CNAs.

The Excel Center’s senior vice president of education admissions says this grant will help provide a better experience for students at the facility.

Students are also thrilled by the donation.

“We have more resources,” said Excel Center student Ashley Alhrout. ”We already have a lot of resources now, which is a big help. So think about 20 programs plus 20 more programs, probably 30 more programs. You just never know. So it’s a big win for the school, and I’m so excited for them because this is a good program to be in."

The Excel Center will be expanding in February to provide services to the Shelby County Department of Corrections to help inmates earn a high school diploma.

The plan is to open another school in Raleigh in August and then another one in North Memphis.
