Memphis men federally indicted for gun law violations

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A federal grand jury in Memphis recently returned indictments against nine men charged in federal court for federal gun law violations:

Wayne Sanders, 31, Jeremy Walker, 32, Leon Moore, 26, Camron Taylor, 21, Montez Carr, 20, Jocquel Williams, 28, Al Kendrick Malone, 22, Cedric Arnold, 35, and Jartavius Lewis, 20.

Sanders, of Memphis, was indicted on Tuesday, June 11, after a federal criminal complaint was filed against him on April 24.

The indictment alleges that on or about February 24, Sanders possessed a Romarm Cugir 7.62 caliber pistol; a Glock .45 caliber pistol; and a Glock 9mm caliber pistol, which had been converted to a machine gun. 

Sanders allegedly pointed another illegally possessed firearm at U.S. deputy marshals attempting to carry out his arrest warrant before fleeing. Officers recovered the firearm, and Sanders was soon after arrested.

If convicted of these offenses, Sanders faces up to fifteen years of imprisonment.

The following suspects are also accused of federal crimes involving switches:

  • Walker was indicted on March 12 for drug and gun crimes, including possessing a firearm with a switch.
  • Moore was indicted on May 30 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machine gun.
  • Taylor was indicted on May 30, for possessing a machine gun.
  • Carr was indicted on May 30 for possessing a machine gun.

The remaining four suspects were charged with other firearm or violent crime-related offenses:

  • Williams was indicted on May 30 for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
  • Malone was indicted on May 30 for carjacking and for brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
  • Arnold was indicted on May 30 for being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition.
  • Lewis was indicted on May 30, for possessing a machine gun.

These cases are being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Gun Task Force.
