Founder of non-profit arrested for allegedly strangling wife

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The founder of a local Memphis charity is facing charges of assault.
Larry Hunter, 64, is the founder of Touched by an Angel Ministries, a non-profit that gives back to Memphians struggling with poverty.
Hunter was arrested Monday for aggravated assault and domestic assault.
According to a police affidavit, Hunter and his wife got into an altercation in December 2025 that turned violent.
Police say Hunter threw her against the wall and strangled her until she blacked out.
She suffered injuries to her lip, neck, hands and arms.
Detectives reviewed footage that supports the assault claim.
Hunter’s wife told police she did not report the incident right away because he threatened to “revoke her Green Card.”
Hunter has since been released from jail on a $45,000 bond.
