Gallaway mayor charged with drug possession maintains innocence
GALLAWAY, Tenn. (WMC) - Gallaway Mayor Jamie Mayo is continuing his mayoral duties after being arrested Friday night in Tipton County on drug possession charges.
In a statement, the City of Gallaway says Mayor Mayo maintains his innocence and there are no plans for the mayor to step down at this time. He is working with his private attorney to address the matter in court.
According to Mayo’s arrest report, a Tipton County deputy pulled over a pickup truck for dark window tint and broken taillights.
Mayo was sitting in the passenger seat.
The deputy observed Mayo appearing nervous. After getting out of his seat, a quarter-gram of crack cocaine was allegedly found underneath.
Mayo was arrested and released on a $10,000 bond. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
His court date is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.
