MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A man with a history of felony arrests is back behind bars on a $400,000 bond after police say he snuck into his ex-girlfriend’s townhouse, hid in her closet while six others were home, and then revealed himself to threaten her and her current boyfriend at gunpoint with a loaded rifle.

Corwyn E. Winfield, 26, was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Monday.

He is charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of aggravated domestic violence, aggravated assault, aggravated child abuse/neglect, eight counts of reckless endangerment, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and domestic assault.

According to his arrest affidavit, Memphis police were called to Emerald Square Townhomes in the Hickory Hill neighborhood for a disturbance Saturday evening.

There, officers met with a woman who said that she was sleeping in her bedroom with her boyfriend and five-year-old when they were awakened by the sound of Winfield emerging from a bedroom closet armed with an AR-style rifle.

Winfield is reportedly the father of two children in the house. The affidavit says three children and four adults were inside in total.

Winfield allegedly pointed the gun at the woman and her current boyfriend in their bedroom, making threats to kill them while ordering them not to move.

But the boyfriend reportedly jumped into action, and a struggle ensued over the gun. Police say the gun was fired several times during the fight, and Winfield was hit by one of the rounds.

Another round reportedly went into a neighboring townhouse bedroom occupied by a baby, a six-year-old and two teenagers.

The affidavit says Winfield eventually lost grasp of the firearm, but picked it back up and fled from the home.

Police later learned that he was admitted to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Officers also recovered five more rounds from his person at the hospital.

No other injuries were reported from the incident.

Winfield is now behind bars on a $400,000 bond and due in court Wednesday morning.

Shelby County Court records show that Winfield has a history of prior arrests for charges of domestic violence, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, theft, unlawful weapon possession, and more.
