MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis-Shelby County Schools held a press conference Friday to address some infrastructure issues their schools.

Some of those issues include:

Several classrooms at Central High experienced HVAC issues Friday. One student was taken to the hospital after a medical issue.

MSCS says there was no report of HVAC issues before school opened after the building was inspected before children arrived.

After school began, it was discovered that four classrooms were without air conditioning.

Officials say there was not an HVAC issue in the classroom where the student had a medical emergency.

MSCS says fleas impacted one of the three buildings on campus at Berclair Elementary. One student received care over the weekend after receiving multiple flea bites.

The source of the fleas has not yet been identified. MSCS says treatment will continue until the fleas are gone.

A list provided by the district names 24 schools in total where recent water testing showed lead amounts exceeding the standard threshold.

MSCS says permanent measures to resolve these elevated lead levels are in the works. In the meantime, faculty and students have access to bottled water and water filtration machines for safe drinking.
