Free backpack giveaways happening across the Mid-South
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Several organizations are giving away backpacks and school supplies on Saturday to help families get ready for the new school year.
Memphis-Shelby County School students will be back in less than two weeks, and other districts are not far behind
And with Tennessee’s tax-free weekend here, many parents are trying to cash in on deals.
There will be a 1,000 backpack giveaway presented by The Dreams Foundation for their 7th Annual Backpack Giveaway at Tiger Lane.
This giveaway will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 335 S. Hollywood Street.
They will also offer:
- Wrap-around services
- Mental health, dental, and vision resources
- Entrepreneurial, educational, and career-readiness connections for families
- Live music
- Food
- Games
Local organizer, Warren Mack, is encouraging Westwood residents to come to A.M.G. Arcade from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for school supplies and free food.
Starting at 10:00 a.m., the Horn Lake Police Department is hosting a backpack giveaway at Latimer Lakes Park.
Greene Litigation Group on 212 Goodman Road E. in Southaven from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In Whitehaven, Alpha Memphis Education Foundation will start its giveaway from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Barton Drive.
The event will have:
- Supplies
- Vendors
- Free food
- Free haircuts
- Music
In Millington, there’s a giveaway sponsored by Xfinity at the Ed Haley Sports Complex Gym from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Free school supplies, sweet treats family fun will also be included.
Sunday
Bethal United Apostolic Church will have a backpack giveaway starting at 2:00 p.m. on 10972 Bethel Road in Olive Branch.
