MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A superstar comes home!

Rap star GloRilla surprised students at her alma mater, Melrose High School, Wednesday afternoon.

The students thought they were attending a pep rally to celebrate their football team’s second-place finish in the state championship game.

GloRilla says she has not been back to Melrose since she graduated in 2017.

“Like I remember taking them tests on their computers! I don’t know it just bring back, it’s a nostalgic feeling like I can’t believe I’m this old now!,” said GloRilla.

Big Glo also brought a big check with her-- 25-thousand dollars, that money will go to the school’s library to help literacy through upgraded computer software and new spaces for students to work.

Thanks to her donation, GloRilla will have a permanent marker in her old high school.

Melrose is renaming the school’s library, The Gloria H. Woods Media Center.

“The excitement on GloRilla’s face is what it’s all about, she is is a clear representation of leave a legacy,” said MSCS superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins.

“She is also a clear representation of what it means to have a quality education; it can take you anywhere in the world,” said Feagins.

Hopefully, the improvements and upgrades to the new library will be completed by the summer.

GloRilla’s surprise homecoming comes on the heels of Billboard naming her the Hottest Female rapper of 2024, beating out heavyweights Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.
