DA announces ‘Memphis gangster’ indicted in 2023 high-profile gun store burglary

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (WMC) - DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton says that a 23-year-old “Memphis gangster” has been indicted on charges related to a high-profile burglary of a Southaven gun store and jeweler that occurred more than a year ago.
Thieves were caught on surveillance video ransacking the Guns & Fine Jewelry in Southaven on March 10, 2023.
Guyland Key, of Memphis, has been arrested in Arkansas and faces a DeSoto County Circuit Court indictment on charges of weapons trafficking, burglary of a commercial building, conspiracy, and grand larceny.
“This indictment sends a clear message: if you come from Memphis or anywhere else to commit crimes in DeSoto County, we’re coming after you with everything we have,” said DA Barton. “Because of Southaven’s tremendous police work, we are going to pursue justice aggressively against Key and anyone else who conspired with him.”
According to the indictment, Key and four others—clad in hoods, gloves, and masks—stole over 150 firearms and jewelry from the shop.
They broke their way in and fled within just three minutes.
Assistant DA Gordon Shaw is handling the prosecution of this case.
