Trial date set in death of inmate strangled at 201 Poplar

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A trial date is set in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Marcus Donald, an inmate who was strangled inside 201 Poplar.
The lawsuit was filed against the Shelby County Government, Sheriff Floyd Bonner and a number of other SCSO employees.
According to court records, Donald pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge on November 17, 2022.
The same night after entering that plea, he was strangled to death in a cell by another inmate.
Donald’s family wants $75 million in damages.
The trial date is set for June 25, 2025.
