MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Memphis police officer is in critical condition after being dragged by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon while attempting to serve a subpoena.

According to the Memphis Police Department, at around 1:25 p.m., officers arrived on Alma Drive to serve a subpoena to an individual.

Upon arriving to the home, officers saw the individual that was to be served standing in the yard. The individual walked past the officers and got into the driver’s side of a car. A person was in the passenger seat of the car with the door open.

As an officer attempted to hand the subpoena to the individual through the passenger side, the driver backed up the vehicle and struck the officer with the open passenger door. The driver continued to back up, dragging the officer and striking a patrol unit.
