MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Employees of the FedEx Memphis World Hub can earn a tuition-free online degree through the University of Memphis, the university announced in a press release Saturday.

The program--Learning inspired by FedEx, or LiFE--will allow the more than 11,000 hub employees to earn one of the 60-plus graduate and undergraduate online degree programs offered by Memphis.

"FedEx is extremely important to the University of Memphis, our city, and, frankly, our nation," UofM President M. David Rudd said in a release. "FedEx is a vital supporter of the University of Memphis, and we are so excited about the new LiFE initiative. It's a tremendous opportunity that will open the door for thousands of FedEx Express employees to pursue a degree through UofM Global, reaffirming our mission of removing barriers to postsecondary education and providing a quality education for all."

The LiFE program will allow students who do not already have a high school diploma to earn a high school equivalency credential through online course work while also earning postsecondary credit hours.

There will be an academic coach and 24-hour, seven-day-a-week tutoring available to the students through UofM Global.

Students must remain in good academic standing to participate in the LiFE program, and employees will be eligible for the program beginning as early as their first day of employment.

"FedEx Express is excited to be working with the University of Memphis to offer our team members at the Memphis World Hub the opportunity to earn a tuition-free degree," said Barbara Wallander, senior vice president of Human Resources at FedEx Express. "We expect the LiFE program to make a difference in the lives of our team members, and we remain deeply committed to supporting our community here in our hometown of Memphis."
