MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - After being destroyed by a major fire 12 years ago, a historic Downtown Memphis church will reopen this weekend.

First United Methodist Church was destroyed by a fire in 2006.

The new building combines traditional elements with new touches like glass walls and a towering steeple.

The new sanctuary will open for worship for the first time Sunday, Aug. 5 at 11 a.m.
