MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - No one wants to get stuck in traffic, but if you don't plan to avoid Interstate 240 this weekend, your plans may be delayed.

Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will close Interstate 240 from the Interstate 40/240 flyover to Bill Morris Parkway (Hwy 385). All eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed.

Traffic will be detoured to the north loop of Interstate 40 or the south leg of Interstate 240.

Your commute on Poplar Avenue will also be impacted by the construction project. Crews will close all lanes, eastbound and westbound, on Poplar Avenue at Interstate 240. Drivers should consider using Walnut Grove Road, Shady Grove Road, Park Avenue, or Quince Avenue as alternates.

Work is scheduled to begin Friday, July 20, 2018 at 9 p.m. until Monday, July 23, 2018 at 6 a.m.

These closures are necessary so that work can continue on the MemFix 4 project. The $54 million construction project will replace or repair four bridges along the Interstate 240 corridor between Walnut Grove Road and Quince Avenue that were all built in 1968.

TDOT expects to do more weekend closures:

  • Friday, July 27 through Monday, July 30
  • Friday, August 3 through Monday, August 6.

The construction project is expected to wrap up by June 2019.
