Newborn twins found dead inside suitcase in an Arkansas ditch
CROSS COUNTY, AR (WMC) - The bodies of two newborns were discovered in a purple suitcase on County Road 602 in Wynne, Arkansas, according to Cross County Sheriff's Office.
The suitcase was discovered around 1:43 p.m. Friday on a ditch bank.
The infants appeared to be twins, the sheriff's office said.
People who live near County Road 602 reacted with sadness and anger.
"It's just heartbreaking. I could just cry for those babies," said Laravina Evans, who lives nearby. "They had their whole life ahead of them."
Arkansas has a Safe Haven Law where any baby up to 30 days old can be left at the local law enforcement agency or medical provider anywhere in Arkansas.
Cross County Sheriff's Office is 2.8 miles away from where the bodies were discovered.
"Who would do that to their child?" Lonnie Evans asked. "Give them to somebody. You all have places in Memphis, and some places in Wynne, if you don't want them, give them there. As old as I am, I would have taken them."
"They could have dropped off anywhere!" Harris said. "Anyone would have taken them."
"You should come to the authorities," Evans said. "Be man enough to come and turn them in. And do something with them when you get them."
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details are available at this time.
Investigators and people from Wynne are asking for anyone with information to come forward to get justice for these babies. Contact the Cross County Sheriff's Office at 870-238-5700.
