Man shot while shielding woman during armed robbery

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man was shot in the leg while shielding a woman during an armed robbery in Memphis, sources said.

The robbery happened at The Medicine Shoppe on Estate Drive around 9:45 a.m.

Investigators said two men carrying guns went inside the pharmacy and robbed the place.

Memphis Police Department said the robbers took prescription medicines from the store, and they shot an employee in the store.

Customer Annie Billions said the man who was shot is a pharmacist at the Medicine Shoppe.

"He's a great guy, and I'm worried sick about him," billions said. "I figured if something like that was going on, he'd step in and try to handle it."

The victim was shot twice, once in each leg. He was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The robbery and shooting happened in a shopping center that houses a pediatrician. Several children and their parents were evacuated from the area as police investigated the scene.
