TIPTON COUNTY, TN (WMC) - An airplane landed safely on Highway 14 in Tipton County after an emergency forced the pilot to land the plane immediately.

The plane made the emergency landing around 10:30 a.m. just south of State Route 206 near the Shelby County line.

"I'm happy to be alive, man," passenger Jack Freckman said.

Freckman was one of two people on the plane, which left Smyrna in the morning bound for Millington.

The plane was not seriously damaged and nobody was injured, but the ordeal scared the people on the plane and the motorists who saw the plane coming down on top of them.

"I was like, 'What is that plane doing on the interstate?'" Joe Baroni said.

"He's fortunate that traffic was not heavy, and he had a four-lane road to land on," Lt. Cary Hopkins of Tennessee Highway Patrol said.

The cause of the plane's engine trouble has not been identified at this time.
