MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A 4-year-old girl is in critical condition after a shooting Friday night.

The shooting happened on Egan Drive, just south of the intersection South Mendenhall and Cottonwood roads.

First responders arrived on the scene at 7:08 p.m. Memphis police said they are treating the shooting as an accident at this time.

"I was coming from the store and I saw them flying down the street," said neighbor Sabaine Williams. "I'm like what's going on?"

TDOT cameras showed police blocking the interstate as they escorted the ambulance to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. We were there when the ambulance arrived.

"That hurts my heart," Williams said. "I have seven grandkids, and I'd hate for any one of them to get hurt."

Neighbors watched as police blocked off part of Egan Drive while detectives investigated and gathered evidence.

Police said there were three young children in the home with their father, and it appears the 4-year-old was playing with the gun. Police will not say how the girl got the gun.

"To these parents that have these guns, you need to make sure they are locked up," Williams said. "For an innocent child to get hurt, that's bad."
