WEST MEMPHIS, AR (WMC) - Ascent Children's Health Services fired four daycare employees after a 5-year-old died while in their care.

CEO Dan Sullivan said 5-year-old Christopher Gardner, Jr. would still be alive if the employees followed company policies and procedures.

"Justice still got to be done. It not done yet," grandmother Carrie Smith said. "They go home to they kids. My daughter can't come home to her son and I can't come home to my grandbaby because he gone."

Gardner was left in a van for hours. His body was found Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Sullivan met with the family of the child on Wednesday for the first time since the child's death. He expressed his condolences and offered to pay for the funeral expenses.

"They was good about it," Smith said.

But she said the family doesn't want Ascent to pay for the funeral.
