Tow truck driver shot while patrolling parking lot
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A tow truck driver was shot in the head as he patrolled a parking area at a Memphis apartment complex Tuesday morning.
The driver's boss, Issac Herron, identified him as Darrell Adams, 28. Herron said Adams was working at Edens at Watersedge Apartments when someone pulled out a gun and opened fire.
"As I was coming to the apartments they were leaving with him in the ambulance," Herron said. "[Adams] was not repo'ing nor was he towing anything at the time."
Herron said his drivers often drive through properties to enforce parking rules. However, this time someone was waiting on the next tow truck driver.
"[He] was hiding behind the building or something, and as he [Adams] was riding through took several shots at him," Herron said. "After being shot, he was conscious enough to call 911 and lock himself in the truck; police had to actually break the window to get him out of the vehicle."
Adams went to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He was admitted in critical condition.
Adams is engaged to be married. He's also a father.
"One of the nicest young men--to my knowledge--you can meet," Herron said.
Officers are still searching for the person who shot Adams.
