'Annie' stars visit orphans at Humane Society

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The stars of "Annie" took a break from their busy Orpheum Theatre performance schedule to visit the Humane Society of Memphis-Shelby County.
Amanda Swickle plays Pepper in the production. Pepper is one of the orphans at Municipal Girls Orphanage. At one point in the production, she pushes one of the other girls to the ground.
Swickle said she found a lot in common between her character and the dogs and cats looking for homes at the Humane Society.
"They all have to get along with each other," Swickle said. "They don't have a family yet, but just like Annie she gets Mr. Warbucks at the end."
"I want them all to be adopted," Erin Fish, who plays Miss Hannigan, said.
If you make it out to see Annie at the Orpheum, you'll see one cast member who knows exactly what it's like to be without a home.
The performance features Sandy, a dog who is a rescue.
"You never know what these dogs could be in a couple of years," Swickle said of the animals at the Humane Society. "They could be on Broadway even. You never know."
Annie continues at the Orpheum Theatre through Sunday night. Click here to learn more or buy tickets.
