Witnesses: Stepfather shot, killed stepson
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man is dead after Memphis Police Department said he and his father got in a fight Thursday.
Emergency crews rushed to the home on Whitney Avenue near Steele Street just after 10 a.m.
MPD said the father and son were arguing. Then the son was shot and killed.
"Anybody that loses a family member like that is going to be hurt," neighbor Brian Burton said.
Witnesses said the man they say is the victim's stepfather is responsible for the shooting.
"It's crazy, man. I come out this morning and see this, and I just spoke with him 11 or something last night," Clarence Bunton said.
Bunton said he was good friends with the victim, who police have not yet identified. Bunton said he could tell something was off when he saw him Wednesday night.
"I want to say he wasn't himself," Bunton said.
Bunton also said the man and his stepfather were close and did not fight much.
"Why he would do something like that?" Bunton asked. "I don't know. It had to be a snap or something."
Neighbors are devastated at the unexplainable violence they woke up to this morning.
"I'm just tired of it. I'm just tired of people killing each other," Gloria Ward said.
And others are mourning the loss of a friend.
"It's sad, man, because he a good dude," Bunton said. "Like I said, he was supposed to come and see my momma today."
No arrests have been made at this time.
