MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man was shot and killed on Dumbeath Road, which is located south of Frayser Boulevard and west of New Allen Road, on Monday.

Monday afternoon, police charged a 19-year-old in the death.

A woman told officers that her brother had been shot. The 18-year-old pronounced dead on the scene.

Monterrio Coneay, 19, was arrested and charged with reckless homicide.

"It's just shocking, because this has always been a quiet neighborhood," neighbor Martha Tipton said.

Neighbors said the victim was just two weeks away from graduating from Excel Academy, a tuition-free school where adults can achieve their high school diplomas.

"He was a good little guy. He and my daughter were like friends," Tipton said. "They grew up together."

The motive for the shooting has not been released.

"He was a kid that was loved and respected and he had his own character and personality that you kind of cling to," Jeffrey Futrell said.
