MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Investigators found a woman's body inside a shallow grave behind a home in South Memphis.

Officers received a tip Monday about a body buried in the backyard of a home on Victor Street.

Officers did find a body, later identified to be that of 32-year-old Samantha Cox. Her death has since been ruled a homicide.

Lela Betts, who lives a few houses down from where Cox's body was found, said the discovery hits too close to home.

"I'm hoping they find out who did this," she said.

Jail records show Cox had been arrested before on charges of theft of property and assault.

As investigators track down new leads in the case, neighbors are scared and worried because so many kids live in the area.

"I saw the crime tape," Tonio Christian said. "I saw the forensic people."

No arrests have been made in the case.
