MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A 57-year-old Knoxville woman is walking coast to coast across America this summer to raise funds and awareness for a 9/11 charity.

Jan Walker crossed the Mississippi River on Saturday on the old Memphis-Arkansas bridge.

Walker is raising money for a cycling-pedestrian trail between the three September 11 crash sites in New York City, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania.

She started her journey on March 1 in Oceanside, California, and hopes to reach Ocean City, Maryland, by September.

For now, she's glad to be back in Tennessee.

"It is just good to be home," Walker said. "West Tennessee is Tennessee. It'll even feel better when I get to Knoxville. It almost feels like a security blanket coming into the home state."
