Man charged with raping 11-year-old girl

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A man is behind bars after police said he raped an 11-year-old girl.

It happened in the 1000 block of Merriweather Avenue.

Police said August Thompson raped an 11-year-old girl while her mother was not home.

A witness told police she woke up and saw Thompson with the girl.

Thompson is charged with aggravated sexual battery and rape of a child.

He is being held on a $150,000 bond and is due in court Monday.
