Couple found dead in homicide near Millington
MILLINGTON, TN (WMC) - Deputies are investigating a double homicide just outside the Millington city limits.
Friends identified the victims as Brenda Dukes and Rhonda Bishop-Dukes, who were married and well-known in the area.
A mother of one of the women went to check on the two women on Matthews Road, and found the bodies.
Those who knew the victims said they both worked together for many years at Taco Bell in Atoka. Everyone around the area seemed to know and love them.
Shelby County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths as a double homicide.
"At about 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, we had a call from the mother of one of the victims," SCSO spokesman Earle Farrell said.
Three of Bishop-Dukes' grandchildren were with their great-grandmother, but were kept outside as the home became a crime scene. Investigators said the killer(s) likely had a connection to one of the women and that neighbors should not be overly alarmed.
"There are a couple of suspects, people of interest, they are looking for right now," Farrell said.
Investigators would not confirm how the couple was killed, but neighbors said they were asked about hearing gunshots at the home over the last couple of days.
Pastor Billy Thomas found it difficult to speak after learning about the couple killed inside their home.
"Say a prayer for them," he said. "I think it's sad for this community."
Investigators said the case is not a murder-suicide, and they suspect foul play.
The victims recently vacationed in Florida.
No one with whom we spoke had any idea about who may have killed them.
