Flight attendant charged with stealing 1,500 mini liquor bottles

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A flight attendant has been indicted for stealing almost 1,500 mini bottles of liquor from an airplane, but she wasn't stealing them for personal consumption.

Many people are asking if it was worth it after learning the flight attendant smuggled the small bottles of alcohol off an airplane and then sold them online.

A glass of any alcohol on a Delta flight costs anywhere between $8 and $10 for the same bottles that are purchased at a local liquor store starting at almost $1.

Rachel Trevor, 28, is being accused of profiting from a crime of opportunity when she used her position as a flight attendant for Endeavor Air (a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Airlines) to steal alcohol and sell it for $1 on Craigslist.

People in Memphis don't understand why she would risk her job to make a few extra dollars.

"Underage or if you're looking for a good deal, I don't know," Nicole Nillermoe said.

"It was stupid on her part to go on Craigslist, because someone is going to find out and report you," Frank Loyd II said.

Investigators said Trevor used a bag to hide and steal the 50 mini liquor bottles. She stole whiskey, gin, vodka, and rum.

After allegedly taking nearly 1,500 mini-bottles, she was arrested in November 2015 when undercover agents said they made a purchase from her of some of the stolen bottles.

"She had a good career, a good job for her, and a stupid mistake probably ruined her career or any future career opportunity," Nillermoe said.

"It's not worth it," Loyd said. "You losing your job, starting all over again. Probably ending up doing jail time."

Loyd is right, jail time is just what Trevor faces. According to Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich, she is facing several charges of theft of property over $10,000, unlawful sale of alcohol, unauthorized transportation of alcohol, and unauthorized storage of liquor for sale. She faces a minimum sentence of 3-15 years in prison.

Delta Airlines said Rachel Trevor works for Endeavor Air, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Airlines. Delta Airlines public relations released the following statement concerning the investigation:

Endeavor Air expects nothing short of the highest standard of integrity from our employees and takes seriously any activity that falls short of that expectation. This employee is no longer employed by the airline. We will continue to work with authorities as needed.
