Christian Brothers High School sophomore scores perfect ACT
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A sophomore at Christian Brothers High School, Dwight Moore, earned the highest possible ACT Composite score of 36.
Dwight is the son of Geneva and Dwight Moore, Sr. of Collierville.
The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1–36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores. Some students also take the optional ACT writing test, but the score for that test is reported separately and is not included within the ACT Composite score.
Moore has a 5.0 GPA and is currently taking a number of AP and honors classes. He said he has plans to go to college and possibly law school.
Less than one in every 1,000 people who take the ACT get a perfect score.
This is not the first time Moore has taken the test.
"In 7th grade, I got a 26, in 9th grade I got a 33, and in 10th grade I got a 36," Moore said.
His teachers said he has a bright future.
"He's capable of great things, he's a great player in the band," Patrick Bolton, Moore's band teacher, said.
Moore enjoys football, tennis, math, and music.
Moore has advice for other students.
"People can do whatever they want to do if they're willing to put in the work to do it," Moore said.
He said he's grateful for his teachers, parents, and family who have helped him along the way.
Christian Brothers High School posted the following message on their Facebook page Tuesday morning:
"Nationally, while the actual number of students earning the top score varies from year to year, on average, less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earns the top score. Among test takers in the high school graduating class of 2015, only 1,598 of more than 1.92 million students earned an ACT Composite score of 36."
"Please join me in congratulating sophomore Dwight Moore for his perfect composite score of 36 on the ACT," CBHS principal Chris Fay said. "Dwight is an incredibly polite and humble young man, who is respected by both his peers and teachers. He is a model student at CBHS."
ACT test scores are accepted by all major US colleges. Exceptional scores of 36 provide colleges with evidence of student readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead.
