MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police found a 24-year-old man dead at an apartment complex Friday morning.

Officers found the body in the 2800 block of Meadowlake Drive.

Police said a person called them and said they had not heard from the victim since Thursday. When police arrived at the scene, they found his body.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of death, but in the meantime neighbors said the violence is getting out of control.

"It has gotten so much so now that its almost commonplace that you hear someone firing a weapon," Stanley Smith, neighbor, said.

"You hear shots here all the time--when the police ask you if you hear shots you say, 'Yeah I hear them all the time, but I can't tell you where they are coming from," Rodney Dover, neighbor, said.

Memphis Police Department said officers have been called to Eden at Watersedge apartment complex sixteen times for shooting calls. Two of those calls ended with people being injured. In 2015, at least three people were shot and killed in the apartment complex.

"The crime rate makes me want to leave my hometown. It's sad," Dover said. "People can't go anywhere anymore."

To help reduce crime in the area, MPD increased patrols and installed new cameras outside the complex.

Neighbors said that's a good start, but they're still afraid.

"I don't feel safe anywhere on Memphis streets. I love my city; I just don't feel safe here," Dover said.
