28 people arrested at 'MoneyBagg Yo's' CD release party
TIPTON COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Twenty-eight people were arrested during a CD release party for a Memphis-based rapper.
The party was designed to celebrate a music CD release for "MoneyBagg Yo" and other local rappers. It was held March 13 at the former Maserati Club on Highway 70 in Mason, Tennessee.
MoneyBagg Yo, whose real name is Demario White, was arrested on drug and gun charges.
Tipton County Sheriff's Office said it was targeting criminal activity, violence and probation or parole violators.
Deputies arrested 28 people and confiscated 10 loaded guns, a bullet proof vest, cash and drugs.
"They were lined up on the highway. They had one right here, one right here, right here," said Darius Dowell, who decided not to go to the party.
Dowell lives near the Maserati Club and said Saturday night the deputies surrounded the club.
"People who had a warrant or something like that on probation, or something like that, and they just came and got me," said Dowell.
Some of those arrested are known gang members, according to law enforcement officials, that belong to the Vice Lords, Gangster Disciples, Bloods and Crips.
A video posted to White's Facebook page the night of the arrest is reportedly showing White and others quickly bonding out of jail.
Some in the community think the party was an easy target for law enforcement.
"People are going to turn up, drink, smoke something. I mean, what are you going to do at a party?" said Dowell.
Deputies also identified three undocumented immigrants at the concert. Federal authorities were notified and are completing an investigation into their immigration status.
