ALCORN COUNTY, MS (WMC) - Friends and family are mourning the loss of a couple after a fatal fire in Alcorn County, Mississippi.

Officials said Lou Mahler and Reba Huggins were found dead in the home.

"She loved anybody, dogs, cats," Ricky Burcham said.

Burcham is holding on to countless memories of his grandmother Reba Huggins' home.

"It's just something else," he said.

Burcham said his grandmother lived at the home for as long as he can remember.

He is one of 12 grandchildren, many of whom rushed home when they heard the news.

"This is just so devastating to our family," Belinda Mathis said. "It's going to be really rough, especially since she was the one who held us all together."

Mathis is one of Huggins' granddaughters.

Lou and Reba are described as soul mates who shared a passion for wildlife--especially hummingbirds.

The couple was featured on TV in September 2013 talking about hummingbirds.

"When the sun hits it that throw, actually like real ruby," Lou Mahler said in 2013.

The pair died side by side, just as they lived. Investigators found them in a bedroom.

"Probably the last of their kind. Sweet old people," Burcham said.

The source of the fire is unclear. Investigators said it is possible the fire started in the front part of the old, wooden house.

"Cherish every minute you've got with your grandparents," Burcham said. "They can go before you know it."
