MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Shelby County Election Committee made three promises to address the delayed election results of October 8.

Extremely slow results were not solely the result of a software issue.

According to election committee officials, a procedural error caused the delay during the Memphis city election on October 8. It took early votes too long to upload into the system, which pushed other results back.

Additionally, several precincts turned in their results late.

The commission promised three changes moving forward:

  • uploading early voting results before polls close without tabulating them
  • three turn-in sites at each precincts
  • training for poll workers whose results came in at 9 p.m. or later

"We'll have multiple locations where the election officials are bringing the results, rather than a single location." Shelby County Election Commission Administrator Richard Holden said.
