Memphis police investigate double homicide
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - It was intended to be a typical day of mail delivery, until the mail carrier came upon two people shot dead on their porch.
It happened in the 1800 block of Tahiti, about a half a mile away from Interstate 240 and South Perkins Road junction. The mail carrier discovered the men just after noon on Wednesday.
Neighbors coming home from work were surprised to see a crime scene in what they say is an otherwise quiet neighborhood.
"Basically nobody bothers nobody, so it's a shock," said neighbor Angela (who did not give her last name).
Police are not saying much about what happened, other than when they arrived, they found two men dead on the front porch.
Randy Juarez says he was outside when it happened, but he lives around the corner.
"I heard something strange in my ear. I only had ear buds in one side and I heard something. I thought it was across the yard and it might have been a gunshot," said Juarez.
Steve Garriott says he knew the victims and would give them rides around the area. He says the house belonged to their parents and they kept to themselves.
"I don't have any idea what in the world could have happened, why it happened," said Garriott.
Now, as police continue to investigate, neighbors are on high alert. They are waiting to learn more about what led up to the shooting.
"No, I don't feel safe. It's scary. It's basically scary," said Angela.
