HORN LAKE, MS (WMC) - A DeSoto County constable was arrested Saturday. The ear-to-ear grin he's wearing in his booking photo is not sitting well with residents.

Horn Lake police arrested Christopher Plumlee after he was stopped for speeding. He is now charged with driving under the influence.

"He definitely should not be doing that, even if you're not on duty or you're not representing your job," said Krystal Cummins. "It's a bad reputation of the community, you know, and society sees that.

Plumlee is a District 2 constable for DeSoto County. He is one of five elected constables in DeSoto County, who are mostly responsible for serving court orders, but do have the power to make arrests.

"We are all humans, and I understand elected officials make mistakes also, but I think they should be held to a higher expectation than us," said a DeSoto County resident.

Plumlee is not the first Mississippi constable to be arrested for DUI. Marshall County Constable Johnny Fitch was arrested in June for refusing a DUI test after a Holly Springs police officer saw his vehicle on the side of the road.

Plumlee was released on a $1,600 bond. He is due in court for the charges in November.
