TUNICA CO., MS (WMC) - One teenager is in custody after investigators found a gun at Rosa Fort High School.

Tunica Sheriff's Office deputies arrived and took the teen into custody.

The school was locked down as investigators conducted a search to make sure everyone on the campus was safe.

"As he approached me he showed me the gun. My heart just dropped. I didn't know what to do," a 15-year-old student said. "It was like a nightmare."

The student said the boy approached her in the hall and said he had heard she was in a gang.

"I was like yeah, I dropped out of the gang," she said.

She said the 16-year-old is in a gang and may have been threatening her to join again. She went to school administrators, who called the Tunica County Sheriff's Department, who then put the elementary, middle, and high school on lockdown for more than two hours.

Frantic parents showed up when their children did not come home.

"I was waiting for my child to come home. Ain't none of the kids come home from my subdivision," Anthony McNeil said.

Deputies not only searched the school, but used police dogs to search cars, lockers, and students.

"They placed my hands on the wall and patted me down, checked my backpack," student Demarius Tickett recalled.

The ordeal was unsettling for students.

"I felt unsafe," student Denario Powell said. "I hate to see my whole school in that predicament. Somebody could get hurt."

The mother of the 15-year-old who turned in the student with the gun is relieved.

"I'm really proud of her," she said. "I thank God she turned the young man in because something serious could have happened."

Tunica County investigators questioned the 16-year-old. He was taken to another county that has facilities for juveniles.
