MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A building collapsed near the intersection of Lamar Avenue and Barksdale Street.

Chopper 5 was over the scene where a large portion of the roof caved in and some of the walls crumbled.

"It's pretty bad," witness Patrick Jones said. He said he's glad he wasn't walking by the building when it collapsed. "It could have easily got me."

Memphis Fire Department crews quickly determined no one was hurt and no one was inside at the time.

The building may have been a recording studio at one point, but most, if not all, of the strip center looked vacant.

Jones hopes the collapse will prompt crews to inspect other empty buildings in the area.

"Just like this happened, it could happen somewhere else," Jones said. "It could be some people inside."
