MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Many shoppers were surprised when looking at crime stats for Memphis area malls.

One shopper said she thought the Raleigh Springs Mall probably had the most crime. As it turns out, she was wrong.

Raleigh Springs Mall has the least amount of reported crimes compared to other malls in Memphis.

WMC Action News 5 Investigators learned that the mall with the most crime in the last two and a half years is none other than Wolfchase Galleria.

Police responded to nearly 900 incidents since January 2013.

"It's an elite neighborhood, and I wouldn't expect that kind of crime to happen over there," said shopper Sharen Green.

In one of the latest incidents, police said two men ran up to a car with people inside and opened fire in the mall's parking lot Wednesday night.

No one was hurt.

"You really have to watch your back at the mall," said shopper Melanie Creek.

Some people said they're not shocked.  They said the bigger the mall, the bigger the crime numbers.

Most of the incidents reported at Wolfchase were shoplifting accusations.

Behind Wolfchase, police were called to Southland Mall 450 times.  Oak Court Mall had more than 400 incidents.

Shopper Maty Jackson said she thinks twice about shopping anywhere in Memphis. She said she was attacked and almost robbed at a shopping center on Getwell Road Thursday night.

"We actually had a fight over my $5 bill," Jackson added.

Here are breakdowns of the crimes at Wolfchase, Hickory Hill, Oak Court, Southland and Raleigh Springs.
