Police search for suspects after fatal Hyde Park shooting
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police are searching for three men after a deadly shooting in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
According to police, one person was shot in the 1300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard.
Family members of the victim say he was outside putting up a basketball hoop for neighborhood kids when he was shot during what they are calling a drive-by shooting.
Family identified the victim as 34-year-old Marcus Williams.
Police say the suspects are three men in a Nissan Maxima. No arrests have been made.
"It's terrible," said one family member. "It could have happened to anybody, but sitting in front of your house you should feel more safer than that."
Some family members feel that the situation is even more tragic because the victim was trying to do something good for the neighborhood.
"He was out here you know, trying to do something for the kids," said the victim's cousin, Jamal Rufus. "Get a goal up to give them something to do to stay out of trouble."
Memphis police say the victim later died at the hospital.
