MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police are on the lookout for a pair of priceless glasses- snatched from the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum Tuesday, April 21.

Around 8 p.m., officers found that a pair of Elton John's glasses, on loan to the museum, were stolen from the display case. The glasses were part of a special exhibit called 60 Years of Rock 'N' Roll, along with an Elvis guitar, a Whitney Houston gown, and a Three 6 Mafia sweatshirt.

Elton John wore the heart-shaped pair of glasses in the 1970s. The pair went on display in April 2014.

"Give em back. Even if you have to do it anonymously, they're a treasure for the museum and a good part of Elton's history," said Jay Immel, visiting from Kansas City.

Wednesday, the display case holding the glasses had been moved, but museum managers don't believe it was an inside job.

Neither the museum, nor the case, showed any signs of forced entry, and it was not damaged. A specific screwdriver is needed to open the case.

Museum visitors hope the glasses aren't gone for good.

"I'm deferring, I think people are better than stealing, they may be misplaced," said Jenny Hughes, visiting the Bluff City from England.

Leaders say in the 15 years since the museum opened, this is the first theft. The glasses are insured for $2,000.

The man who admitted he stole Elton John's glasses from the Rock 'n' Soul Museum was arrested Tuesday, April 28.
