ALCORN COUNTY, MS (WMC) - A move by the Alcorn County Sheriff's Office is getting a lot of attention on social media. During a repair this week, the sheriff had the body shop put 'In God We Trust' on the front bumper of the SUV.

"We just got it fixed and we put 'In God We Trust' on the front of it," said Alcorn County Sheriff Charles Rinehart.

It's the only SUV with the markings so far, but it's getting a lot of attention and support locally.

"This country was founded on God and I think it should stay in here," said resident Sarry Swindle.

"But I do believe in freedom of speech and everybody's right to their opinion. But we've got to get back to some basics, we've got to get God involved or we're going to loose our country," said Mike Shipman, a member of law enforcement.

"I try to live a Christian life and I'm proud of it," said Rinehart.

Rinehart added the phrase to one SUV but he plans to add it to more. He says it simply reminds everyone what law enforcement members stand for, and who they look to for protection.

Those who opposed it have taken to social media, voicing their opinions, calling it a violation of the separation between church and state. But Rinehart isn't worried.

"'In God We Trust.' That's on all of our money. Our state seal now in Mississippi says 'In God We Trust.' We've got a governor that has supported putting prayer back into our schools. So I think we're on the right track," said Rinehart.

And the majority of the people in Alcorn County don't object.

"I am proud of it and if offends anybody, I'd be glad to sit down and talk to them about it," said Rinehart.

Sheriff Rinehart does not have a timeline for when he'll add the phrase to other county vehicles. But he says he looks forward to the day when they all read 'In God We Trust.'
