Man killed in Frayser apartment shooting identified

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A shooting at Todd Creek Apartments in Frayser killed one man early Thursday morning.

After neighbors heard shots fired in their apartment complex, they found Sherrod Smith dead.

Smith's family is devastated. His mother was too upset to say much more than she thinks the shooting was the result of a robbery.

"Right now, my family is devastated," said Smith's niece, Precious. "Hopefully they'll find the guys and arrest them because this don't make no sense. I mean, it's really terrible right now. It's devastating to lose someone that close to me."

Smith's family says he is the father of two young boys. Precious says Smith was her best friend; they did everything together.

Police officers have not released any information about possible suspects.
