U of M law students campaign for visit from Today Show's Savannah Guthrie
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Law students at the University of Memphis are making a huge social media push to get a Today Show host to visit the Bluff City.
It's a campaign that is going viral.
The student leading the campaign says she's a lifelong Today Show fan and nothing would please her more than to have NBC Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie in Memphis in May to speak at their graduation.
The Memphis Law students have saturated social media for nearly 30 days with pictures showcasing the city with messages for Savannah telling her why she should visit and be their speaker.
The pictures were posted to Twitter using the hashtag #Guthrie4Graduation.
Students say it's all about showcasing Memphis as a cool city and highlighting all it has to offer.
"To wrap up our 30 Days of Guthrie, we have a big group picture happening tomorrow [Thursday]. We've specially ordered shirts from a local t-shirt designer, Satchi. And we actually just overnighted her a shirt for her and her new baby," explained Lacey Ward.
The group even sent the new mom and baby Vale a care package from FedEx containing Memphis Law School T-Shirts.
The students say they have talked to Guthrie's assistant and while she expressed an "interest in coming," nothing in set in stone.
The University of Memphis Law School graduation is May 9 at the Cannon Center. WMC Action News 5 will let you know if Guthrie makes the trek to the Bluff City.
