MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - During a 2014 investigation, Wooddale High School was ranked the worst school for crime in Shelby County.

Parents and students were not surprised to hear of a large fight at the school — over a game of dice.

Emergency vehicles parked in front of the school as Shelby County Sheriff's deputies patrolled the front entrance Thursday afternoon.

"It was out of control. Even the principal could barely break it up," said Deshauna Manuel, WHS junior.

Deputies say two students got into a fight after gambling in the cafeteria. From there, three more students joined the altercation.

Braxton Bush says he was included in the fight.

"I hit the dude who kicked my friend in the face, and it went from there. Everyone just started fighting," said Bush. "My friend thought he was cheating him out of his money."

Bush was suspended for 10 days.

Parents rushed to Wooddale High moments after hearing the news.

"I hurried up and got on up here. My first thought was to go on and check my son out because I didn't know if he was involved with it or not," said Shawanda Ray.

For many students, including Braxton, Thursday's fight was a lesson learned.

"I'll try to break it up but I'm not going to fight at school. I will handle it out of school because I need to get my grades together and stuff. I'm trying to play basketball and stuff," Bush added.

Deputies say a female student was taken to the hospital. A total of five victims and suspects were involved. Three students will be referred to Shelby County Schools School House Adjustment Program Enterprise (S.H.A.P.E.), one will be issued a juvenile summons and the other will be issued a misdemeanor citation.
